Today’s issue covers September passenger totals from 50 Mexican airports; an Indian passenger is charged after allegedly stabbing two fellow travelers with a fork aboard a flight, while U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirms that searches of travelers’ phones and laptops are increasing at ports of entry. Southwest Airlines faces off with the San Antonio airport authority over gate allocation, and additional fleet, route, and delivery updates round out a packed edition of Flightline — nearly 3,000 words of current airline operations, fleet moves, and aviation-security developments.

New and Proposed Routes 🆕

United Airlines (UA) will add a handful of double-daily regional routes early next year: Denver (DEN) to Roswell, N.M. (ROW) on February 24; Houston Intercontinental (IAH) to Chattanooga, Tenn. (CHA), Montgomery, Ala. (MGM) and Alexandria, La. (AEX) from March 30, April 7, and May 21, respectively. Routes will be operated by SkyWest Airlines (OO) Canadair CRJ-200 equipment under the United Express banner.

Asiana Airlines (OZ) will begin 3x weekly flights from Seoul Incheon (ICN) to Milan Malpensa (MXP) on March 31. Asiana will also add a 4x weekly operation from Seoul Incheon to Budapest, Hungary (BUD) on April 3. Both routes will be operated by Airbus A350-900 equipment.

Italy’s ITA Airways (AZ) will resume twice daily flights from Rome (FCO) to Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV) on January 1. Airbus A32neos will handle the flying for these.

Delta Air Lines (DL) will resume two routes to Tel Aviv next year: 3x weekly from Atlanta (ATL) in April, and daily from Boston (BOS) in late October. The Atlanta flight will be flown by an Airbus A350-900, while Boston sees an Airbus A330-900 rostered.

Delta is also adding Saturday flights from its growing Austin, Texas (AUS) focus city on June 16 to Bozeman, Mont. (BZN), Kalispell, Mont. (FCA), and Destin, Fla. (VPS).

Canada’s Flair Airlines (F8) will add 6x weekly service from Vancouver (YVR) to Montreal Trudeau (YUL) on April 15, 3x weekly from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to St. John’s, N.L. (YYT) on May 1, and a 3x weekly run from Toronto Pearson to Moncton, New Brunswick (YQM) on May 15.

Air China (CA) will add a 4x weekly return from Beijing Capital (PEK) to Abu Dhabi (AUH) on January 24. This route sees a Boeing 787-9 put to work.
